Manager FSG want to replace Jurgen Klopp is actually friends with Thiago and told him to join Liverpool

Xabi Alonso – who Fenway Sports Group want to replace Jurgen Klopp – is actually friends with Thiago and told the Spaniard to join Liverpool.

That is according to Caoimhe O’Neill of The Athletic.

So, what was said about Xabi Alonso and Thiago as Liverpool attempt to replace Jurgen Klopp? Let’s take a look…

Xabi Alonso told Thiago to join Liverpool
Well – according to Foot Mercato – FSG have made contact with the Spaniard as those in the boardroom at Anfield prepare for life after Klopp.

If that is true, then Liverpool should have no problem convincing Alonso to join – as he himself apparently advised Thiago to leave Bayern Munich for Anfield back in 2020, according to The Athletic.

Liverpool eventually sealed a £20m deal to sign the Spain international.

The Athletic also mention that Alonso and Thiago remain close friends – having made 67 appearances alongside each other at the Allianz Arena – which adds an interesting dimension to FSG’s desire to appoint the Bayer Leverkusen boss.

Alonso and Thiago may not even get the chance to work together again, even if the 42-year-old replaces Klopp.

The Liverpool No.6 sees his contract expire in July, and after a difficult campaign with injuries, some have even suggested that he may have already played his final game for the Reds.

However, if Alonso arrives at Anfield, the Tolosa-born tactician may want to keep his close friend around and lean on him for advice as he embarks on a major managerial challenge at Anfield.

In truth – at the age of 32 and with regular injury problems – Thiago could even step into something of an assistant role if he no longer feels capable of performing at the highest level.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Alonso appears to be the overriding favourite to replace Klopp.
