Liverpool given Kylian Mbappe transfer boost as Real Madrid claims made

Liverpool have been given a slight boost to their hopes of signing Kylian Mbappe. The 25-year-old forward faces an increasingly uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain, with his contract at Les Parc des Princes set to expire at the end of the season.

Since the start of the New Year, clubs have been eligible to begin pre-contract talks with Mbappe over a free transfer in the summer. Now that the January transfer window has passed, the Parisians are in a race against time to extend his deal otherwise they could lose out on millions in potential transfer fees.

With the striker yet to sign an extension in the French capital, the Premier League has been mooted as a potential destination. However, Liverpool are expected to face tough competition from several top European clubs for Mbappe's signature – one of which being Real Madrid.

According to Spanish publication Marca, Los Blancos are struggling to negotiate with the France international's agent and mother, Fayza Lamari. This, of course, leaves the door wide open for the Reds to wrap up a deal of their very own.

The report states that Lamari driving a hard bargain as she looks to receive the best possible terms for her and her son. Marca add that Real Madrid and Mbappe are in fact 'far apart' on agreeing terms despite the Spanish giants' eagerness to finally sign the Frenchman.

Last month, Gary McAllister urged his former club to pull off the unthinkable. Speaking to Boyle Sports, the former Reds ace said: "I think clubs like Liverpool should always be there when a world superstar like Kylian Mbappe becomes available.

"If there's an opportunity there, and if the Mbappe deal is in line with the budgets and how the club is run, then Liverpool should be interested as far as I'm concerned."

The Scotsman added: "Over the last few years, people have been saying that Mbappe's next step was Real Madrid, but the link with Liverpool has also been there. Liverpool were also in the picture when Jude Bellingham was available. I can't see a reason why they couldn't get Mbappe if the deal worked for them."
