Klopp must drop £120k-per-week Liverpool player in next game, he's been below par - View

Liverpool will look to return to winning ways when they face Burnley in the Premier League at Anfield next Saturday.

The 3-1 loss against Arsenal was their second defeat of the season following the controversial loss against Tottenham Hotspur, which meant, the Reds have picked up zero points from their trip to north London in the 2023-24 campaign.

The result has been significant because it has brought back life into the title race with Arsenal now sitting only two points behind the Reds.

A lot has been said and written about Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave the club at the end of the season and the impact it can have on the team. Richard Keys has even made a bold statement after the defeat against Arsenal that skipper Virgil van Dijk is already thinking of moving on.

On this pretext, the game against Burnley bears extra significance. On paper, Liverpool should win this game comfortably, but they cannot take any team lightly. Klopp will be looking for a response, and that’s why he needs to be spot-on with team selection.

Cody Gakpo needs to be dropped
In the absence of Mohamed Salah, Klopp has mainly used the combination of Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Luiz Duiz upfront.

The Dutchman has featured prominently in recent games. He has managed three goals and two assists in 10 Premier League starts this season, scored two goals in the Europa League and four more in the League Cup.

However, he has looked below par in the last few games, including the one against Arsenal where he barely managed to have any influence on the game. He was taken off after 58 minutes.

Darwin Nunez, who has been in impeccable form, managing seven goals and seven assists in the Premier League, should start against the Clarets. In that case, Gakpo needs to be dropped.

Even if, Klopp doesn’t want to take risks with Nunez, he can also bring Harvey Elliot on the right-hand side. Elliot has mainly started from the bench this season, but he is more than capable of making a strong impact from the first whistle.

Gakpo, who is on £120k-per-week deal at Anfield, is a terrific player, but Klopp should look to rotate the squad and drop him for this game after his lackluster performance against the Gunners.
