Liverpool told 36-year-old manager with amazing pressing game could be perfect for them

Liverpool’s hunt to find Jurgen Klopp’s successor promises to be a pivotal point in the club’s history.

Klopp has been an overwhelming triumph in every single aspect of his tenure. Following him is an almost impossible job. But someone’s got to do it.

So far, the favourite to fill Jurgen’s enormous shoes is former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. Liverpool have even been told that failure to appoint anyone but Alonso will lead to instant dissatisfaction amongst the fanbase.

However, speaking on BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club yesterday, football analyst Statman Dave put forward a different name.

“I’m a big fan of Julian Nagelsmann,” says the expert. “I thought it was a bit unfair the way it ended at Bayern Munich with Robert Lewandowski. You go back and look at some of the numbers there and Bayern were scoring 3.03 goals per game, which is the best record since 2011. I do think his stock is a little bit low but think back to when he went to Bayern and I think they paid 25 million Euros.

“His positional game is very good, like Guardiola’s, he’s pressing game is like Klopp’s pressing game and I think he’s someone who would be perfect for Liverpool, I really do.”

Nagelsmann backed for Liverpool job
This is a fair analysis. Had Klopp announced his decision a year ago, then Nagelsmann would likely have been very much in the frame and very much a popular choice.

But over the past 12 months, the 36-year-old’s reputation has soured. Sacked by Bayern in March, he was then heavily linked with a move to the Premier League with Tottenham and Chelsea. That ultimately didn’t happen.
