Kylian Mbappe reveals talks with FSG co-owner as Liverpool transfer speculation continues

Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he regularly asks FSG co-owner LeBron James for career advice.

The NBA legend bought a 2% stake in Liverpool for around £4.7m in 2011, and was a minority owner of the Reds for over a decade. However, he exchanged those shares for a stake in FSG in 2022, along with his business partner Maverick Carter and Paul Wachter, and is thought to own 1% of the group.

Liverpool continue to be linked with an ambitious move for Mbappe, who is out of contract at the end of the season. The Reds previously tried to sign the France international when he was still at Monaco in 2017. Meanwhile, they have continuously been linked with the World Cup winner over the years, despite figures at the club, including manager Jurgen Klopp, admitting a deal would be beyond their financial grasp.

With his future again the subject of speculation, Mbappe has revealed that he is in contact with James, whom he met in the US during a Nike campaign a few years ago, and that he does seek career advice from the American.

However, such advice is seemingly with regards to projects off the pitch, as opposed to the American having any sway in the 25-year-old’s future amid speculated interest from Liverpool.

“He is much farther along in his career than I am and projects outside of sport have cemented his place as a sporting legend,” Mbappe said of James in an interview with GQ Magazine.

“Being able to ask for advice from inspiring figures like him provides an opportunity to adjust my plan and create my own approach that is as effective as possible in terms of helping young people today.”

Meanwhile in the same interview, Mbappe also dropped a hint about leaving PSG when talking about former team-mates Lionel Messi and Neymar, who both left the French giants last summer.
