Kylian Mbappé is proving what Jude Bellingham already showed in new Liverpool transfer reality

Anyone playing January transfer bingo will have had their ‘Kylian Mbappé to Liverpool’ crossed off within hours of the window opening — possibly even seconds. No surprises there.

Even by modern standards, it didn’t take long at all for the French star to start being linked with a move to Anfield again. With his contract at Paris Saint-Germain set to expire in the summer, rumors on his future are going into overdrive, and while a move to Real Madrid seems to be the only viable outcome, Liverpool continues to feature in the stories.

That’s despite Mbappé surely being out of the Reds’ financial capabilities from the moment he moved to PSG. Jürgen Klopp confirmed as much last year.

"We laugh about it," Klopp told Sky Germany back in August. "I can say that I think he's a really good player but the financial conditions don't suit us at all. I wouldn't like to ruin the story now... but as far as I know, there's nothing to it.

"It's possible that someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me... that hasn't happened in the eight years that I've been here. That would be the first time."

Even so, the rumors persist. Caught Offside is the latest to get in on the act, suggesting Mbappé has already agreed to forgo a loyalty bonus worth $88m (£69m/€80m) in order to secure his exit from PSG, with Liverpool supposedly now the frontrunner for his signature.

Of course, we’ve all heard it before, and chances are we know exactly how this ends. The rumors will rumble on with no progress actually being made, with the reports starting to suggest Liverpool has dropped out of the race as we approach the summer before Mbappé’s move to Madrid is inevitably announced.
