Jurgen Klopp transfer target admitted dream is to sign for Liverpool

Liverpool transfer target Morten Frendup was revealed to be a fan of the club during an interview he gave in 2018.

The ECHO reported at the start of this month the Reds are monitoring the Danish midfielder, who currently plays for Serie A side Genoa, though a deal is more likely to take place this summer as opposed to in January.

Frendrup joined his current club in 2022 from Brondby and has become a regular starter in the Italian top-flight, capable of operating as a defensive midfielder or as an offensive option on the left flank.

It is not only Liverpool who are understood to be tracking the 22-year-old, however, with Tottenham Hotspur also said to be eyeing the youngster. Spurs recently signed Genoa defender Radu Dragusin and have now turned their attention to another player from the Italian club, it has been suggested.

Should a transfer battle play out between the Reds and the Lilywhites, Jurgen Klopp may well fancy his chances of getting a deal over the line. The reason for this is because Frendrup shared his dream of playing for his favourite club, Liverpool, six years ago aged 16.

Speaking to Danish outlet Sj√¶llandske Nyheder, he said: "It’s a dream I’ve always had, and I believe it will succeed. If I work hard, I believe in it."

Frendrup, who has featured in every Serie A game for Genoa this campaign, has two years remaining on his current contract and will become a free agent in the summer of 2026 unless he agrees fresh terms prior to this date. Liverpool of course revamped their midfield department in 2023, bringing in four new players in this part of the pitch to account for losing Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner and Naby Keita.
