Journalist is convinced Chelsea are going to bid for £100m player when he becomes available

Offers for Brentford striker Ivan Toney could arrive in the summer, including one from Chelsea.

Time is running out for Chelsea and other clubs to make a move for Ivan Toney now, but journalist Dean Jones is convinced that the Blues will submit a bid for him at the end of the season if the 27-year-old does decide that he wants to leave Brentford.

At the same time, though, Jones has also told GiveMeSport that he thinks Toney likes the idea of joining Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal.

The England international was quick to remind interested parties what he is capable of over the weekend after his eight-month suspension.

Toney made his first start of the season for Brentford against Nottingham Forest, scoring an excellent free-kick to help Thomas Frank’s side win 3-2.

Jones is quite adamant that a Chelsea bid for Toney will be on its way in the summer if the forward wants out of the Gtech Community Stadium.

Discussing the Brentford star’s future, he said: “The most probable outcome is that it is the summer window in which he moves. I genuinely do believe he likes the idea of moving to Arsenal. I think that, reading between the lines, we can quite easily see that he is open-minded about it.

“But, if he was actually going to make a move, I can’t believe for one second that Chelsea wouldn’t be tabling an offer at the same time.”

Whether it is Chelsea, Arsenal, both clubs or someone else, a bid is almost certain to go in for Toney at the end of the season.

The former Peterborough United man is one of the top strikers in the Premier League, scoring 20 goals last term, and will have just a year left to run on his contract.

It would be a surprise if Brentford sold Toney now, this late in the transfer window, but he has not actually ruled out leaving the Bees this month. According to Sky Sports, he is valued at £100m by the club.
