Report: Liverpool now interested in signing the fastest player in the Bundesliga, he's 'incredible'

Liverpool are casting their eye over a potential new addition at right-back.

The full-back position has been the topic of much debate over recent weeks, with usual starter Trent Alexander-Arnold excelling in midfield.

As a result, there have been claims that Liverpool could be in the market for someone to succeed their No.66. And today, 90min report that that man could be Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong.

With Leverkusen flying at the top of the Bundesliga table under former Red Xabi Alonso, Liverpool reportedly sent scouts to watch their game against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday. The object of their gaze is said to have been Frimpong.

News recently broke that the Dutchman has a release clause of around £35m, which becomes active next summer. Consequently, Liverpool – as well as Arsenal – are claimed to be scouting Frimpong in the hopes of securing a bargain.

Alexander-Arnold’s form is also mentioned. The Reds have reportedly now shifted their sights from bringing in a No.6, to signing a right-back based on Trent’s performances.

It’s quite clear now that Liverpool need to start planning for life with Alexander-Arnold as a central midfielder.

The 25-year-old has made his feelings on the matter very obvious and Jurgen Klopp can no longer ignore that truth.

For the moment, the one thing truly stopping Klopp from shifting Trent full-time is the lack of an adequate replacement at right-back.

Liverpool have a couple of promising youngsters coming through the academy, and Joe Gomez can play there, too. But none currently feel like a proper option for a full-time starting spot.

As a result of that, the Reds needs to look to the market. In that respect, Frimpong would feel like the outstanding candidate right now.

The Netherlands international has been in fine form this season and still has years of development ahead of him.

His former manager at Celtic, Neil Lennon, recently called his displays for Leverkusen ‘incredible’ [Glasgow Live]. Meanwhile, have him recorded as the joint quickest player in the German top division this season.

With an attacking output that even better’s Alexander-Arnold’s this season, it’s obvious what Frimpong can bring to Liverpool. They may have to wait until next summer to get him, but it’s encouraging to hear that the Reds are doing their due diligence here.
