Liverpool are now determined to sign second best youngster in the world, he’s ‘special’

Liverpool are not willing to back down in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Florian Wirtz.

It has been a busy period of news for Wirtz of late. Yesterday, his Dad confirmed that the 20-year-old won’t be leaving Leverkusen until 2025 at the earliest.

Although there have been plenty of reports linking Wirtz with Liverpool, the word on the street is that the player himself favours a move to Bayern Munich.

Despite that preference though, 90min now claim that Liverpool will not give up on the Germany international and remain ‘determined’ to sign him.

While it’s acknowledged that Wirtz would prefer to join Bayern, the Reds are reportedly unwilling to ‘throw in the towel’ and concede defeat. On the contrary, it’s said that Liverpool will fight the German champions ‘all the way to end’ for the forward.

The Reds’ view is reportedly shared by Manchester City, who are also claimed to be ready to strongly rival Bayern for Wirtz in 2025.

Liverpool fighting for Wirtz
With so much keen interest in Wirtz, you can see why his father is relaxed about a possible move. When you’ve got three top clubs fighting over you, you’re never going to be scrabbling for a transfer.

Just like the man who pushed him into second spot in GOAL’s NXGN 2022 – Jude Bellingham – Wirtz has all the biggest sides on alert.

But while Real Madrid always seemed favourites for Bellingham, it’s Bayern who are aiming to stump their Premier League rivals this time.

For the time being, no such predictions should be made on where Wirtz ends up. The smart money would currently be on him staying in Germany, but plenty can happen over 18 months.

Liverpool, for example, may be in a position where they can go big on the youngster in summer 2025. Had Wirtz been moving this summer, that might not have been the case.

As a result, you can imagine that his plan to stay at Leverkusen for another year has only strengthened Liverpool’s determination here.

Having lost out on Bellingham, the Reds would be wise to avoid another such mistake with Wirtz. The German has been described as ‘very special’ by former Leverkusen teammate Karim Bellarabi [Sky Sports]. He’s a potential superstar.

It obviously isn’t going to be an easy race this, but Liverpool are right to be loathe to admit defeat. Fight until the end, Reds!
