Kylian Mbappé transfer deadline set amid Liverpool links as Arsenal offered Ivan Toney 'Plan B'

Liverpool's fine season continues following the midweek 2-0 win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on December 6. Two expert finishes from Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai secured all three points for Jürgen Klopp's men.

Liverpool's win, coupled with Manchester City's away defeat to Aston Villa, means the Reds are now four points clear of their rivals in second place. Table-toppers Arsenal are two points away from Liverpool, with all eyes now firmly squared on the massive fixture between the two sides at Anfield on December 23.

Liverpool has another away trip this coming weekend, as it travels south to face Crystal Palace. Old Reds boss Roy Hodgson would no doubt love to stunt Liverpool's progress, but considering the form books, fans will be expecting all three points to keep the pressure firmly on Arsenal.

The mood around Anfield has been soured somewhat with the news that Joël Matip could be out for the remainder of the season after it was confirmed he ruptured his ACL in the 4-3 win over Fulham last weekend. The Cameroonian's contract expires at the end of the season and it's unknown how long he will be out for at this stage.

Here, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the other big sides in the Premier League and around Europe to take a look at the news going on at the other clubs. As ever, Kylian Mbappè is not far from the transfer gossip columns.

The Kylian Mbappé saga seemingly never ends. The Frenchman has been at the center of a tug-of-war between current team Paris Saint-Germain and suitor Real Madrid for years now, but the end does appear to be in sight.

Mbappè has told the French side that he doesn't intend to remain at the club past next summer. Spanish source AS states that Madrid has told Mbappé it is willing to offer the superstar a contract to join Los Blancos next summer, but he must make a decision by January 15.

Liverpool is being linked with a move of its own for Mbappé (via The Mirror). But the finances involved in bringing the 24-year-old to Anfield has always made any deal appear unrealistic.
