Douglas Luiz breaks silence on January move to Arsenal as £50m transfer doubted

We are now in the time of year when football comes at you thick and fast, leaving little time to even think about the January transfer window. However, in Arsenal's case, that simply can't be the case.

Mikel Arteta's men seem to have been preparing for the winter window for some time. The summer saw over £250million spent on bolstering the squad with Declan Rice the highlight arrival and like last season, the north Londoners are challenging for the Premier League title.

One man linked with Arsenal is Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz. The 25-year-old was on Arteta's radar in the summer of 2022 with three deadline-day bids turned down.

Luiz signed a long-term deal at Villa Park but his performances under Unai Emery have kept Arsenal in the loop. Arteta worked with the Brazilian during his time at Manchester City and with the ongoing concerns over Thomas Partey's fitness, Luiz seems to be the perfect fit.

However, with Villa now competing for a Champions League place, Luiz has insisted he isn't letting talk of his future distract him. He told Sky Sports: "I am very happy to hear the stories but I am here at Aston Villa.
