Arsenal must secure Viktor Gyokeres transfer with title on the line

Mikel Arteta is once again leading Arsenal on another title charge after faltering last season despite leading the table for the longest possible period.

The defence and midfield have been impressive with William Saliba and Declan Rice holding their fort for the team. Although Arsenal’s wingers have been impressive, the centre-forwards have been lacklustre this season with Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah, and Kai Havertz scoring only ten Premier League goals accumulatively.

Hence, the Gunners are set to recoup a more lethal forward and recent reports (Record) revealed that Arsenal have registered an interest in Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres over a potential transfer.

The Sweden international has been one of the signings of the season so far. Since he arrived from English Championship outfit, Coventry City last summer, Gyokeres has emerged as one of the most lethal strikers in the Portuguese top flight this season scoring 15 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions for Sporting this season.

The 23-year-old is valued at £87m and has a contract until June 2028 at the Estádio José Alvalade. Sporting head coach, Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is unperturbed as he believes any player can leave if their release clause is met.

Despite possessing two strikers, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, Mikel Arteta expresses dissatisfaction with their final-third productivity, driving the desire to acquire a number nine with a guaranteed goal-scoring capability.

Gyokeres demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess by tallying 41 Championship goals across three seasons with Coventry before securing a move to Sporting last summer.

As the second-top scorer in Portugal’s top division, Gyokeres boasts nine goals and four assists in 12 games, totaling 15 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions this season. Additionally, his inaugural experience in European competition includes two goals and one assist in four games.

Gyokeres’s recent performances indicate he could be a suitable addition to address the Gunners’ goalscoring woes and add the much-needed firepower in attack to boast Arsenal’s sojourn towards their first title in two decades.
