Arsenal legend urges Gunners to raid Aston Villa for £70 million star

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has urged the North London club to sign Ollie Watkins in the coming weeks. The Aston Villa striker is reportedly valued at £70 million by the Midlands outfit.

“[Watkins] is a good shout. Yeah, because he’s a box striker. He doesn’t get too involved in the build-up play which I like,” Seaman said (h/t TEAMtalk) before adding, I sometimes see Jesus too far out, and I’m like: ‘No, get back in the middle!’ It’s something everyone is talking about, getting a new striker would boost the team.”

Watkins has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League, and he could prove to be a sensational acquisition for Arsenal. The 27-year-old has 13 goals in 21 appearances for Aston Villa this season. He managed to score 16 goals across all competitions last season.

The England international is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, and he could transform Arsenal going forward. The Gunners currently have Gabriel Jesus as their first-choice striker, but the Brazilian is not prolific enough. Arsenal need to bring in another striker who can share the goalscoring burden, and Watkins is a target.

That 27-year-old is well-settled in the Premier League, and he could make an immediate impact at Arsenal. His ability to link up with the midfielders and hold up play in the final third makes in the ideal fit for Arsenal’s style of football as well.

The striker could be attracted to the idea of playing for a big club, and he could challenge for the league title with the move to Arsenal. In addition, they will be able to provide him with Champions League football as well.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have done very well this season, and they are third in the league table. They will look to secure Champions League qualification themselves and will not want to lose their best player midway through the season. The West Midlands club are under no pressure to sanction Watkins’s departure, and Arsenal will find it difficult to convince them in January.
