£50m Arsenal star wants to join EPL moneybags in January amid Arteta decision - report

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is open to joining Newcastle United during the January transfer window, according to talkSPORT.

The Magpies could be without Nick Pope for the rest of the campaign after he sustained a serious shoulder injury against Manchester United on Saturday.

The England international will spend at least four months on the sidelines, and Newcastle are now looking for a new goalie.

David de Gea has offered his services to the club as he is still a free agent since leaving the Red Devils last summer.

Ramsdale is also keen on a potential move to Newcastle after losing his place in the starting XI to David Raya.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear that the Spaniard is his first choice after he reinstated him to the starting XI for the last two games.

Ramsdale was in the starting line-up for the game against Brentford as Raya was inedible to face his parent club.

However, the Englishman found himself back on the bench for the games against RC Lens and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and could now be very open to leaving Emirates Stadium in January.

Newcastle will need to pay £50 million to secure his services midway through the campaign, which could dissuade them given that De Gea is available for nothing.

He earned £375,000-a-week at Man United and would need to accept significantly reduced wages for a deal to work.

Ramsdale will not demand such huge wages, but whether Arsenal would want to strengthen one of their rivals remains to be seen.

The Magpies have Martin Dubravka, Lloris Karius and Mark Gillespie as their current goalkeeping options, but manager Eddie Howe could see the Gunners star as an upgrade.

Newcastle have the cash the spend given the financial wherewithal of their Saudi owners, and they could be willing to pay for his services in the coming weeks as they need a top goalie if they want to win silverware and finish in the top-four this term.
