Report: Liverpool could now be beaten to 'amazing' 22-year-old in January, he prefers another team

Liverpool could lose out to Real Madrid in the transfer market once again in January.

Los Blancos have beaten the Reds to the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham over the past couple of years.

And now, according to Spanish outlet AS, the La Liga leaders are plotting to make it a hat-trick in the New Year.

They claim that the new target of their recruitment team is Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio. With Liverpool and Manchester United circling though, getting him next summer could be complicated.

As a result, Madrid are reportedly ready to make a move to tie Inacio up in January. They’re claimed to be hopeful that such a plot will eliminate both English clubs from the running.

They supposedly will be helped by the fact that the 22-year-old is ‘prioritising’ a move to the Bernabeu. Said to be keen to follow the likes of Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo in going from Lisbon to Madrid, the ‘amazing’ Inacio will reportedly give Real preference over any other suitors.

Liverpool have unfortunately become used to being bettered by Madrid in recent years. Both on and off the pitch.

They’re not alone in that of course, the Spanish giants are one of, if not the biggest club on the planet.

For players from the Spanish and Portuguese speaking parts of the world, they and Barcelona are the be all and end all.

Once they come to the table in the market, few can compete.

Still, you’d like to think that Liverpool are one of the few clubs who can persuade a player to turn down the glamour of Real.

In terms of a centre-back specifically, the Reds can dangle the carrot of playing with perhaps the greatest defender of this generation – Virgil van Dijk. For all of their glory, Madrid’s current side doesn’t really contain the superstars of old. Maybe Liverpool can capitalise on that.

Regardless of whether they can or not, the crux here seems to be that Real are ready to move for Inacio – who has £52m release clause – in January.

With the emergence of Jarell Quansah, it now seems unlikely that Liverpool will be looking for a centre-back in the winter. As a result, this early ploy for the Portugal international may well win the day.
