Report: Arsenal could now sign Serie A star Roberto Mancini has deemed 'brilliant' for just £30m

Arsenal have set their sights on Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno, according to La Repubblica.

The Italian outlet – as relayed by FCInternews – claim that the Gunners are one of the clubs interested in signing the 24-year-old.

As well as Arsenal, there are a number of Serie A clubs in pursuit of Buongiorno, added the report.

The Gunners are apparently up against the likes of AC Milan and Inter Milan for the Italy international, who has been making a big name for himself in the Italian top flight.

Buongiorno graduated from the Granata academy and broke into their first-team back in 2018.

He has been a regular since the start of the last season and his form hasn’t gone unnoticed by elite clubs.

The report also claims that Buongiorno’s club values the player at €35million (around £30million)

They apparently hope Arsenal pay this fee and/or trigger a bidding war with the two Milan clubs for his signature.

Admittedly, Arsenal are fairly well-stocked in defence at present.

The Gunners have William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Jurrien Timber, Jakub Kiwior and Ben White in their ranks.

Nonetheless, you should never stop looking for potential new additions that could strengthen your team. And Buongiorno is a quality player.

The 6ft 3in powerhouse has already made 90 appearances for Torino, even captaining them on occasion, and has won two caps for Italy.

Roberto Mancini, then head coach of the Azzurri, said the reported Arsenal target was “brilliant” on his debut against the Netherlands earlier this year.

Let’s see what happens in 2024 regarding the Gunners and Buongiorno. They’d certainly fancy their chances of beating the Milan teams to his signature.
