Report: £24m player could be available for free next summer, after claims Liverpool already tried to sign him

There’s a chance that former Liverpool target Daichi Kamada could once again be available on a free transfer in 2024.

Liverpool reportedly tried to sign Kamada before he put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Lazio this summer.

However, although the 27-year-old have signed a multi-year deal in Rome, TuttomercatoWeb today claim that the contract contains an option to terminate after just one season.

They claim that Kamada and Lazio can mutually decide to end their relationship at the end of the Japan international’s first campaign.

Should they decide against doing that, they also have the option to trigger a new, three-year contract.

There are reportedly no clauses attached to Kamada staying or going. Instead, it’s said to be purely a decision based on whether each party is satisfied.

Kamada clause comes to light
The claims that Liverpool wanted Kamada in the summer actually came directly from the player’s agent himself. As a result, they should be taken at least semi-seriously.

In an interview with Sport Italia only last week, Gianluca Di Carlo suggested that although Lazio signed him for free, the attacking midfielder’s real value lies somewhere around £24m.

As a result, we don’t see why Lazio would choose to let Kamada walk away for nothing next year.

Even if they weren’t completely happy with his performance, they could trigger his extension and then simply put the Japanese up for sale.

Kamada will be 28 next summer, and although the Reds have made an exception for his international teammate Wataru Endo, they don’t tend to sign players in the 27-30 age bracket.

If he were available for free though, then maybe Liverpool would sense a chance. Kamada is clearly a talented player who the Reds have previously considered. It wouldn’t be out of nowhere.

However, it he’s been deemed not up to scratch by Lazio, then why would Liverpool think he’s good enough for them. In any guise, we don’t see how Kamada ends up at Anfield from here.
