Man City vs Liverpool prediction made by Jamie Carragher

Jamie Carragher fears Liverpool face an uphill task to gain a positive result in Saturday’s Premier League summit meeting between Manchester City and Liverpool.

After undergoing a major summer overhaul, Jurgen Klopp’s side again look capable of challenging for the title having endured a mediocre campaign last time around.

A new-look midfield, driven by the impressive Dominik Szoboszlai has powered an impressive run of form which has catapulted Liverpool to within one point of top spot ahead of a daunting trip to the Etihad.

City, meanwhile, haven’t quite been at their relentless best so far this season and have already lost twice against Arsenal and Wolves.

Pep Guardiola’s men again looked uncharacteristically vulnerable against Chelsea before the latest international break when they conceded four times and let the lead slip on two occasions during a pulsating 4-4 draw.

Carragher is optimistic this afternoon’s encounter will again be full of goals but is less than confident his old club will come out on top.

He told Sky Sports: ‘I’d have to favour Man City. They might just edge it. I’m hoping there’ll be goals in it.

‘I think Liverpool can cause real problems. I’m not sure I can see Liverpool winning there, to be honest, but I think they could easily get a draw from there, like a 2-2 – something where there’s goals, a bit of a crazy game.

Alexis Mac Allister has impressed in an unfamiliar role for Liverpool this season following his move from Brighton, but Carragher believes he faces and acid test of his ability to play as a No.6 at the base of his side’s midfield.

‘He’ll certainly be asked questions tomorrow that he hasn’t been asked before in a Liverpool shirt with the quality of Manchester City and the players they have around them and how quickly they can counter attack as well.
