Jurgen Klopp shares which Liverpool player Alexis Mac Allister is now ‘really close’ with

Jurgen Klopp has detailed the burgeoning friendship between Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister and Darwin Nunez.

The two South Americans have grown close ever since Mac Allister arrived from Brighton in the summer.

And speaking in his pre-Luton Town press conference this morning, Klopp said that the Argentinian has been helping his Uruguayan colleague understand English instructions.

“We have an extra on-field player, so far it was always Ali [Alisson], the translator [for Nunez] if you want,” explained the Liverpool boss. “But now we have Macca and they are really close with each other and Macca is a super smart footballer. So, if I forget something to tell him, Macca tells him anyway.

“Strikers need to know where to go when midfielders have the ball and that obviously depends on the midfielders and that’s the stuff you talk to players about. The players talk to each other as well about it and Macca there is super helpful.

“And Lucho’s [Luis Diaz] English is getting better and they are very close as well, you can see it.”

Mac Allister making friends at Liverpool
It’s been clear ever since Mac Allister signed this summer that Klopp is a really, really big fan of the World Cup winner.

In many ways, that kind of goes without saying, he did actively sign him for the club after all.

But it feels a little more than that. In a similar way to Jurgen’s relationship with Adam Lallana, it feels like the manager really appreciates Mac Allister’s footballing and emotional intelligence.

The Argentina international has previously shared a story of how his teammates teased him for being ‘Klopp’s son’ when he played him on the back of the September international break.

And although it’s early days, you can sense how much Jurgen appreciates having Mac Allister at the club.

Of course, it helps that the 24-year-old can help get messages across to Nunez, too. It obviously isn’t ideal that Darwin can’t fully understand instructions from Klopp, but at least now he has someone who can fully do that job for him.

That he’s close with Mac Allister will obviously help, too. And perhaps it’s no coincidence then that Nunez’s form has exploded since Alexis joined the team.

Over time that bond will only continue to grow. Let’s hope we get the chance to see them flourish together at Liverpool for many years to come.
