Fluminense confirms André transfer 'imminent' after Liverpool had interest last summer

Liverpool transfer links with midfielder André Trindade appear set to end as Fluminense and Brazil manager Fernando Diniz confirmed that the player is on the verge of leaving the Copa Libertadores champions. The Reds had expressed interest in the 22-year-old during the summer transfer window, but Fluminense rejected their advances in order to focus on their quest for Copa glory.

Jurgen Klopp had been keen to bolster his midfield options ahead of the Premier League campaign following a disappointing season for Liverpool. However, despite bringing in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, the departure of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League forced the Reds to seek further reinforcements.

Instead of pursuing André, Liverpool turned their attention to the German market, securing the signings of Wataru Endō from VfB Stuttgart and Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich. It was rumored that André could make a move to Anfield in January, but club sources have suggested that there is currently no intention to sign a defensive midfielder in the New Year.

Diniz confirmed that André will be leaving Fluminense and he will be moving to Europe, saying: "André’s departure is imminent, and they are two players who were trained at Fluminense and who have had very good times here at the club. Apart from them, we have other possibilities, but I think they’re players I’m counting on a lot for next year."

With Liverpool withdrawing from the race to sign André, several other clubs have reportedly shown interest in the Brazilian midfielder. Fulham, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur are among the London clubs said to be considering a move for the three-time Brazil international (via the Daily Mail).

It seems that André's future lies away from Liverpool, as Fluminense prepares to part ways with the talented midfielder. While the Reds had initially pursued him as a potential addition to their squad, circumstances have led them to explore other options in the transfer market. As André prepares for a new chapter in his career, Liverpool will continue their search for suitable midfield reinforcements to strengthen their squad.
