£22m Liverpool target set for PL move in January, 'keep an eye' on him - Fabrizio Romano

Reported Liverpool target Gabriel Moscardo is likely to leave Corinthians for the Premier League in January.

Moscardo has been linked with Liverpool this week as the chances of the Reds signing fellow Brazilian Andre Trindade diminish.

Liverpool aren’t the only ones interested, but speaking on his YouTube channel last night, journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that the 18-year-old is more than likely heading to England.

“Keep an eye on Gabriel Moscardo, talented midfielder playing for Corinthians, born in 2005, very good player,” Romano says. “Chelsea had a verbal proposal rejected at the end of August for him.

“Now from what I’m hearing, despite many rumours about Barcelona, because of financial fair play they’re not in a position to pay €25m [£22m], €25m plus add-ons to Corinthians for Moscardo, it’s too much and that’s why it’s a complicated deal. He’s highly appreciated by Barca but they are not prepared to invest that money in January.

“I say January because from what I’m hearing, the idea is for Moscardo to transfer in the January window, not in the summer. To leave Corinthians in January, with big Premier League clubs keen on signing him. Keep an eye on Premier League for this boy. For Barca it’s difficult, but for English clubs it could be a very big opportunity.”

Moscardo set for Premier League move
Of course, it would seem as though Liverpool aren’t the leaders in this particular race right now.

Having reportedly already been in touch with Corinthians back in the summer, perhaps Chelsea hold the advantage.

However, it cannot be ignored that Moscardo has rejected Chelsea once before. The Blues also aren’t exactly the most stable club right now.

Liverpool could offer the young midfielder an instant pathway into the first-team. Maybe that will be the incentive the 18-year-old needs.

It’s been a little frustrating over the past year or so seeing the likes of Chelsea hoover up brilliant young talent from Brazil and the rest of South America. Liverpool have been left behind in this respect.

Now though, with Argentinos Juniors midfielder Federico Redondo also linked, as well as Andre, the Reds seem to be waking up. With that in mind, even if they can’t offer Moscardo a direct path into the team immediately, the Reds should still go in for him.

He’s clearly angling for a move to England and the price is well worth taking a gamble on.

If there’s even a small chance that Liverpool think Moscardo could some day soon be a starter for them, there’s no excuse not to throw their hat into the ring here.
