Report: Manchester United looking at 21-year-old defender Liverpool want to sign in January

Piero Hincapie is a player in demand, with Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool linked with the Bayer Leverkusen central defender.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool wanted to sign Piero Hincapie in the summer transfer window and are keen on bringing the central defender to Anfield in the January transfer window.

The report has claimed that Liverpool are “already laying the groundwork for a potential January deal” for Hincapie.

Liverpool, though, are facing competition from Manchester United for the 21-year-old Ecuador international centre-back.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on X that United have Hincapie on their radar as well.

Hincapie has been on the books of Bayer since 2021.

The 21-year-old Ecuador international has made three substitute appearances in the Bundesliga and has made one start and one substitute appearance in the UEFA Europa League this season.

The young centre-back scored one goal and gave one assist in 27 starts and three substitute appearances in the Bundesliga last season.

Hincapie also played five times in the UEFA Champions League and eight times in the UEFA Europa League last season.

In my view, Liverpool are more likely than Manchester United to sign Piero Hincapie.

I believe that the 21-year-old would find Liverpool more appealing than Manchester United.

Yes, United are a massive club, but so are Liverpool.

And, the Reds could actually win some big this season and in the following years.

United are stuck in the ‘project’.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has a very good track record of developing young players, and I think that Hincapie would find working under the German more appealing than moving to United and playing under Erik ten Hag.
