Liverpool transfer now ‘impossible’ as target extends contract

Borussia Monchengladbach have reportedly extended Manu Kone’s contract, making a January transfer for the likes of Liverpool ‘impossible’,

According to the Rheinische Post, the Foals have triggered an option in the midfielder’s deal that has extended Kone’s contract with the Bundesliga club until 2026.

As per the report, this decision has made it so that the French youngster can’t leave in the January transfer window, with Liverpool strongly linked with a move for Kone over the summer.

Lauded as a ‘phenomenal’ player by former Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, Kone is regarded by many as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting talents.

And for Liverpool, the midfielder would have been an ideal signing to add to their squad, even after this summer’s heavy overhaul in the position.

Indeed, Kone could have been a perfect fit under Jurgen Klopp, yet a transfer is now impossible in January after Gladbach’s latest decision.

Kone was one of many midfielders that were heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, and whilst the youngster’s potential is clear, the Reds should be moving on from the Gladbach star.

As we know, Liverpool fully renovated their midfield in the off-season, and although another signing in the position could be ideal, there are better options out there than Kone.

Moreover, Kone’s contract being extended means that his price will balloon, something that will deter Liverpool from a potential move in 2024.
