Liverpool told they've got a 'wicked' 19-year-old now coming through the ranks

Liverpool youngster Kaide Gordon has been hailed by former Derby County teammate Colin Kazim-Richards.

Gordon has had an awful time of it in the past 18 months. Having been bought from Derby in 2021, he quickly broke into Jurgen Klopp’s senior side, scoring his first goal for the club aged just 17.

But having turned 19 on Thursday, Gordon hasn’t been able to contribute at all since January 2022. Injuries could not have been more cruel to him.

Still, once he’s back fit again he’ll surely show he’s got what it takes to play for Liverpool. One man seemingly backing him is Kazim-Richards, who praised Gordon while speaking to the FILTYFELLAS podcast.

“You have Kaide Gordon as well who is coming up.” said the 36-year-old, when discussing talent in the Midlands. “He played with me at Derby when he was 15, he is wicked, he’s a baller. He was 15 in our first-team. He had to have a chaperone.”

Things had been going so well for Gordon up until 18 months ago. As Kazim-Richards says, he was in the Derby first-team proper at just 15.

Just as Harvey Elliott was at Fulham, that’s the signal of a really special talent.

The step up to Liverpool was obviously a big one. But Gordon seemed to handle it with relative ease. Reds fans had every right to be excited about him, having even seen the winger start a Carabao Cup semi-final away to Arsenal.

Since that evening at the Emirates though, the youngster simply hasn’t been fit. Gordon looked ready to become a fixture in Klopp’s senior squad. Instead, he hasn’t played a single minute since.

Given his talent, there is hope that Kaide will still be able to make the grade at Liverpool. But that length of time out of the game will have a big impact on a young player. His development has stalled.

Klopp will certainly give him time and nobody should be writing Gordon off just yet. He’s too good for that.

Fingers crossed we see him back in amongst it at some stage this season, though. Otherwise it could be a really long road back.
