Chelsea may have missed a trick not signing 20-year-old after what he did in Europa League last night

As European football continued with the Europa League and Conference League last night, Chelsea were again left watching players who are not currently at their club.

They will have been watching Romelu Lukaku score again for his loan side Roma, as he continued his fine form ahead of his permanent move there.

However, they will have likely been more interested in players they have previously tried to sign, especially during the last summer transfer window.

One of those was Ansu Fati, who is currently on loan at Brighton for this season.

The 20-year-old accepted late in the window that he was not going to be able to stay at Barcelona, and a number of Premier League clubs considered a move.

One of these was Chelsea, however they decided to go another way.

This allowed him to join Brighton, where he has quickly become a star performer.

He now has three goals in all competitions, and scored the second last night as the Seagulls picked up their first victory of the competition against Ajax.

Their opponents may have looked completely out of sorts, but it is difficult to not take into account just how impressive he looked.

With Chelsea’s stature in the transfer market in comparison to Brighton, it is hard to believe that they would not have been able to secure the deal ahead of their Premier League rivals if they wanted to.

This is why there may be some at the club regretting not making the move for the Spaniard.

They instead put all their deadline day efforts into bringing in Cole Palmer, and supporters will certainly be pleased with this addition after his electric start to life at Stamford Bridge.
