Report: Juventus have completely changed their mind about selling 23-year-old, Liverpool now want him

Juventus have decided not to sell Andrea Cambiaso, amid interest from Liverpool.

Cambiaso is back at Juve having spent the 2022/23 season out on-loan with Bologna. The campaign has started positively for the left wing-back; he claimed an assist on his debut in a 3-0 win over Udinese last weekend.

And according to Calciomercato, this showing, along with his displays in pre-season, have convinced manager Max Allegri to keep him.

Prior to the season, it’s claimed that Juventus had actually planned to loan out, or even sell Cambiaso. However, Allegri is now said to be ready to install him as first-choice at left-wing for Juve, ahead of experienced Serbian Filip Kostic.

This is reportedly set to be bad news for Liverpool, who Calciomercato claim are the side with the biggest interest in signing Cambiaso. Tottenham and Nottingham Forest are also mentioned, bit the 23-year-old now looks set to stay in Turin.

This is a little bit of a strange link from the Italian press. It’s true that Liverpool may be in the market for a left-sided defender in what’s left of this summer, but that’s always been assumed to be as a left-central defender.

Although nominally a left-back, Cambiaso appears to be something much more like a natural wing-back. Not quite defender, not quite attacker.

It could be argued that Liverpool are actually looking for a long-term successor for Andy Robertson at left full-back. But with Kostas Tsimikas set to stick around, they don’t need that right now.

With Juventus seemingly willing to sell, perhaps the Reds sensed the chance to get a good young talent in ahead of time.

But given the business that’s needed doing elsewhere in the squad this summer, it seems unlikely.

Either way, Cambiaso’s good form and Allegri’s U-turn look like making that question redundant, anyway.

Given this is the first we’ve seen of links to the Italy U21 international, this could be one worth tracking for future reference. In the immediate future though, it isn’t going to happen.
